The Local Accommodation Association in Portugal (ALEP) has raised concerns as several councils prepare to notify operators who haven’t submitted mandatory insurance documents for local accommodations (AL), a requirement enforced since a 2024 law amendment. Once notified, owners have up to 10 business days to comply or risk losing their AL licenses. While nearly 70,000 accommodations haven’t submitted insurance, many may be inactive or owned by people unaware of the rule, especially those living abroad or with outdated contact details. ALEP urges operators to act quickly and stresses that this registration, with updated contact details, will help tidy up records, thereby ensuring that AL owners are informed about future policies.
